The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a very gentle but highly effective remedial light touch therapy so named after the Australian, Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916 - 1982), the founder and pioneer of Bowen.

The treatment aims to treat the body as a whole without reference to named conditions. In doing so, emphasis is not placed on only treating the symptoms but looking at the whole picture which will  assist and allow the body to rectify itself it's own way and it's own time, something that the body does constantly but sometimes struggles with.

Administering the Bowen Technique acts in facilitating the healing mechanisms in the body and quite often helps to prevent or aid it's recovery in illness or injury. Physical and structural, emotional and psychological levels can be addressed with this gentle approach that can be performed very easily through light clothing and is suitable for absolutely anyone.

What to expect in a treatment:

It is essential to find out more about you and any important medical history on the first visit so there is always a full consultation followed by the treatment. Allow a good hour for your first visit.

You will start by laying face down on a bed. If this is not possible then you may sit in a chair instead.
You will then experience rolling moves over specific points on different areas of the body. These moves roll over the soft connective tissues, muscles,  ligaments and tendons, releasing tissue tensions which allow the body to adjust itself.  After a series of short Bowen moves you will be left alone whilst your body relaxes and responds to the work that has just been given. This is  for the brain to register what is taking place in the body. This continues until you turn face up and the work is completed  after around 45 minutes.

It is normal to allow 48 hours up to a week for the body to experience changes .

A second visit  is always recommended and important after about a week so that we can assess how you have responded and to then refine the  treatment based on this. Invariably 2-3 sessions should be sufficient to show any positive changes. Bear in mind that chronic conditions may be slower to respond and be less obvious compared to acute situations. However, please be assured that if you feel  that no changes have taken place you will not be asked to persist in limitless sessions but I will help to suggest otherwise.

We do not offer a course of treatments as everyone presents differently and responds individually. Thus together we assess the progress that you are making step by step.
